As well as all sorts of other animals (many rescues, including dogs, goats, pigs, horses, chickens and guinea fowl) we are fortunate in being able to keep a small flock of rare-breed sheep.  The photos are of Wensleydales - they are the largest indigenous breed of sheep and their fleeces are much sought after as they have ringlets and are very silky - the cats really appreciate them - they are the best cat beds ever!

The natural fleece is lovely - known for its silky soft texture, quite unlike normal wool. We have some lovely yarn available now, both natural and hand-dyed to order, so please contact us if you would like to try some. A picture of a hank of wool, and a closeup of the gauge (so you can judge your needles) is included below.

We are looking forward to collecting 2 new girls  to our flock shortly, from different bloodlines.  Both have excellent fleeces - their owner being a very experienced Wensleydale keeper and judge! We occasionally take a few of the sheep to rare breed shows - it is an enjoyable day out, where you can meet other enthusiasts.
